Definition
嗜 (shì) is a bound form (粘着语素) that cannot be used alone; it must combine with another character to form a disyllabic word such as 嗜好 (shìhào, hobby/addiction), 嗜酒 (shìjiǔ, alcohol addiction), or 嗜赌 (shìdǔ, gambling addiction). It expresses an unusually strong liking for something, often to the point of addiction, and typically carries a negative or intense tone.
