Definition
悦 (yuè) is a bound form (b.f.) — it cannot stand alone as a full word in modern Chinese. Instead, it appears as a morpheme inside compounds that convey happiness, pleasure, or pleasingness, such as 喜悦 (xǐyuè, joy), 愉悦 (yúyuè, delighted), and 悦耳 (yuè'ěr, pleasing to the ear). Use it only as part of these or similar two-character expressions; treating 悦 as a free verb or adjective would sound archaic or unnatural.
