Definition
憾 is a bound form (不能单独使用) meaning 'regret' or 'remorse'. It always appears as part of a two‑syllable word, most commonly 遗憾 (yíhàn, 'regret'), but also in 缺憾 (quēhàn, 'regret/imperfection'), 悔憾 (huǐhàn, 'remorse'), and 憾事 (hànshì, 'a regrettable matter'). You cannot use it alone like a full verb; learn it through its compounds.
