Definition
担惊受怕 is a common four-character idiom (chengyu) meaning 'to be constantly in a state of fear and worry'. Literally, it means 'carry fright and endure fear'. You use it when someone is anxious about something that might go wrong — often over an extended period. It can be followed by a cause with 让 or 为, as in 别让我担惊受怕 ('Don't make me worry').
