Definition
推举 is a formal verb meaning 'to elect or select someone for a position, typically through a process of recommendation and voting'. It is more specific than 选 because it implies that the person is put forward or recommended by others (推 = to push forward). You can use it directly before the person, and often follow it with 当 + position. Example: 他们推举小王当班长. Note: the source gloss includes 'sport press', which is an error — this word does not have that meaning.
