Definition
搜查 (sōu chá) means 'to search' in the sense of a systematic, official inspection of a place or person, typically by police or security. It is more formal and thorough than 搜 (sōu), which is a general 'to search' for anything, and different from 翻 (fān), which means 'to rummage through' messily.
