Definition
泻 (xiè) describes a rapid, forceful flow of liquid — water gushing out or diarrhea. Unlike 涌 (yǒng 'to surge upward'), 泻 emphasizes a downward or outward rush; unlike 腹泻 (fù xiè 'diarrhea'), 泻 alone is more general and often appears in compounds like 腹泻 itself.
