Definition
测 (cè) is a versatile verb meaning 'to measure' or 'to infer/conjecture' depending on context. When measuring, it is more general than 测量 (cèliáng, 'to measure dimensions') or 观测 (guāncè, 'scientific observation'). For inferring, it is less formal than 推测 (tuīcè, 'to infer based on reasoning') and less speculative than 猜测 (cāicè, 'to guess').
