Definition
溢 (yì) means 'to overflow, spill over' — liquid rising above the brim of a container. For water spreading widely, use 漫 (màn) or 泛滥 (fàn làn, flood). In its literary sense 'to be excessive', 溢 is used for emotions or praise, while 过量 (guò liàng) is for exceeding a quantity and 过剩 (guò shèng) for surplus of supply/energy.
