Definition
满洲 is an older geographical and ethnic term that historically referred to the region of Manchuria (present-day Northeast China) and the Manchu people, who founded the Qing dynasty. In modern Mainland China, the term is largely historical; the region is now referred to as 东北 (Dōngběi), and the ethnic group as 满族 (Mǎnzú). Learners should be aware of its historical and political connotations, as it is still used in English but carries different weight in Chinese discourse.
