Definition
灌溉 (guàn gài) is the formal, technical term for irrigating farmland on a large scale, such as fields or crops. It is more specific than 浇 (jiāo, 'to water plants'), which is used for everyday watering of gardens or pots, and more precise than 灌 (guàn, 'to pour into'), which is a general verb for pouring liquids. 灌输 (guàn shū) is primarily used for instilling ideas, not for physical irrigation.
