Definition
犯罪 (fàn zuì) means 'to commit a crime'—a legal offense. It is more specific than the general 犯 (fàn, HSK6), which can mean 'to make a mistake' (犯错) or 'have a recurrence' (犯病). Unlike the transitive 触犯 (chù fàn, HSK7), which means 'to violate a law/rule' or 'to offend someone', 犯罪 is intransitive and separable (犯了罪).
