生涯 (shēngyá) refers to a significant phase or career in one's life, like a professional or academic period. It is narrower than 人生 (rénshēng 'life as a whole') and 一生 (yìshēng 'lifetime'), and more focused on a specific pursuit than 事业 (shìyè 'career/cause'). Use it for a defined span of activity, not your entire existence.
