Definition
神经 (shén jīng) is the anatomical term for 'nerve' and also refers figuratively to one's mental state or nerves (e.g., 神经紧张). As a colloquial noun, it can mean 'nutjob' (a crazy person). Its sibling 精神 (jīng shén) is a broader, more abstract noun for 'spirit, mind, ethos' — it does not refer to physical nerves or a person. 神 (shén) alone means 'deity, god' or 'amazing', not the nervous system.
