Definition
而且 (ér qiě) is the everyday, all-purpose word for 'moreover' or 'and also', used neutrally in both speech and writing. It also forms the common pattern 不但…而且… 'not only… but also…'. Compared to the more formal 并且 (HSK4) or 另外/此外 (HSK4), which often add a new point in writing, 而且 feels natural in everyday conversation.
