Definition
脱发 is a verb-object compound (离合词) meaning 'to lose one's hair' or 'to go bald'. The verb 脱 (to shed) can take aspect markers (了, 过) or measure words (次) while the object 发 (hair) stays after them: 脱了很多发 (lost a lot of hair), 脱过两次发 (had hair loss twice). The compound cannot take an object directly — you say 他脱发 not 他脱发头发.
