Definition
脱落 (tuō luò) means 'to fall off, shed' (hair, paint, leaves, teeth) or 'to be omitted' (a character/passage in writing). It is broader than 凋谢 (diāo xiè), which is only for flowers/leaves withering. For the omission sense, 脱落 is more formal than the colloquial 落 (là) and contrasts with the deliberate 省略 (shěng lüè).
