Definition
触犯 (chù fàn) means both 'to violate a law/rule' and 'to offend a person's dignity or feelings'. Unlike 违反 (wéi fǎn), which only applies to rules/laws, and 冒犯/得罪 (mào fàn/dé zuì), which only apply to offending people, 触犯 can cover either sense. It is more formal than 得罪 and less severe than 侵犯 (qīn fàn), which implies infringing on rights or territory.
