Definition
计划生育 is a four-character term referring to China's national population control policy, most famously the 'one-child policy' (1980–2015). It covers both the state-level campaign to limit family size and the broader concept of family planning and birth control. Outside China, 'family planning' usually means voluntary personal choice; inside China's policy context, 计划生育 carries strong historical and government-mandated associations. The term is a noun, often used as a modifier (计划生育政策).
