Definition
计数 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to count' or 'to tally', especially in systematic or technical contexts like statistics, computing, or inventory. It combines 计 (calculate) and 数 (number). When a measure word, duration, or object intervenes, the verb splits: 计了一次数 (counted once), 计一下数 (count a bit). The counted thing is usually stated before or after the verb in a separate phrase.
