Definition
踪迹 (zōngjì) is a general noun for 'tracks, traces, footprints' — any physical or figurative sign that someone or something has passed through. It is broader than 脚印 (jiǎoyìn 'footprint'), which is only the print of a foot, and more concrete than 痕迹 (hénjì 'trace, mark'), which can be a stain or scar left behind. 线索 (xiànsuǒ) is a 'clue' in an investigation or story, not a physical track.
