Definition
雌 (cí) is a bound form meaning 'female' (as opposed to male), used primarily in biological and scientific compound words such as 雌性 (female sex) and 雌鸟 (female bird). It cannot stand alone as a word; it must combine with another morpheme. Its counterpart is 雄 (xióng, male).
