Verbs preceded by 给

Use 给 before the person who receives the action to express doing something for or to that person. The verb phrase comes after the person. This is a common preposition pattern, not to be confused with the verb 给 meaning 'to give'.

Examples

现在不要给他打电话。
Xiàn zài bú yào gěi tā dǎ diàn huà.
Don't give him a phone call now.
请快点给我回邮件。
Qǐng kuài diǎn gěi wǒ huí yóu jiàn.

你可以给大家读一下吗？
Nǐ kě yǐ gěi dà jiā dú yí xià ma?

爸爸应该给儿子道歉。
Bà ba yīng gāi gěi ér zi dào qiàn.
