Expressing "if... then..." with 如果... 就...

Use 如果 (if) to introduce a condition, followed by 就 (then) to introduce the result. In casual speech, 就 is often omitted, similar to how English drops 'then'.

Structure

如果 + [Condition] , 就 + [Result]

Examples

  • 如果有困难,给我打电话。
    Rú guǒ yǒu kùn nan, jiù gěi wǒ dǎ diàn huà.
    If there is any difficulty, give me a call.
  • 如果你输了,给我一百块。
    Rú guǒ nǐ shū le, jiù gěi wǒ yì bǎi kuài.
    If you lose, give me 100 kuai.
  • 如果真的找不回来,再买一个吧。
    Rú guǒ zhēn de zhǎo bù huí lái, jiù zài mǎi yí gè ba.
    If you can't find it, then buy a new one.
  • 如果他再来,我们报警。
    Rú guǒ tā zài lái, wǒ men jiù bào jǐng.
    If he keeps showing up, we'll call the police.
  • 如果你们已经不相爱了,分手吧。
    Rú guǒ nǐ men yǐ jīng bù xiāng ài le, jiù fēn shǒu ba.
    If you no longer love each other, just break up.
