Measure words in quantity questions
Use 几 before a measure word to ask 'how many' about a quantity. Place it after the verb and before the measure word plus noun. Remember that 几 requires a measure word, unlike 多少 which can sometimes stand alone.

Subj. + Verb + 几 + Measure Word + Noun
Examples
- 他有几个孩子？Tā yǒu jǐ gè hái zi?How many kids does he have?
- 你家有几个房间？Nǐ jiā yǒu jǐ gè fáng jiān?How many rooms are there in your house?
- 他们在这里住几个星期？Tā men zài zhè lǐ zhù jǐ gè xīng qī?How many weeks are they staying here?
- 你带了几件衣服？Nǐ dài le jǐ jiàn yī fu?How many pieces of clothing have you brought?
- 老板每天工作几个小时？Lǎo bǎn měi tiān gōng zuò jǐ gè xiǎo shí?How many hours does the boss work every day?
