Indicating a number in excess

When indicating a number in excess (more than), place 多 right after a number that is a multiple of ten. If you have a measure word, it comes after 多.

For numbers from 1 to 9, the order changes: the measure word comes before 多. For example, 两个多小时 means 'more than two hours'.

Estrutura

Number (multiple of ten) + 多 + Measure Word (+ Noun)

For numbers like 50, 200, 1000 — e.g., 五十多 years old, 两百多个学生

Number (1–9) + Measure Word + 多 + Noun

For single-digit numbers — e.g., 两个多小时, 三个多月

我妈妈已经五十多岁了。
Wǒ mā ma yǐ jīng wǔ shí duō suì le.
My mother is over fifty.
我们走了两个多小时。
Wǒ men zǒu le liǎng gè duō xiǎo shí.
We walked for more than two hours.
这个班有两百多个学生。
Zhè ge bān yǒu liǎng bǎi duō gè xué shēng.
There are more than two hundred students in this class.
这本书有一千多页。
Zhè běn shū yǒu yì qiān duō yè.
This book has more than a thousand pages.
我昨天收到了三十多条垃圾短信。
Wǒ zuó tiān shōu dào le sān shí duō tiáo lā jī duǎn xìn.
I received more than thirty spam text messages yesterday.
