Definition
局部 (jú bù) highlights a part considered in relation to the whole — it often appears in contrast to the whole (e.g., 局部地区 'some local areas'). Compared to 部分 (bù fen 'part'), 局部 carries a stronger sense of being a distinct section of a larger thing; when used attributively, it means 'local' (as in 局部麻醉), unlike 当地/本地 which refer to a specific locality.
