检测 (jiǎn cè) means 'to test or detect' using instruments or methods, typically for quality control, safety checks, or medical tests. It is a routine, objective inspection. Unlike 探测 (tàn cè), which is for scientific exploration, or 侦查 (zhēn chá), which is for criminal investigation, 检测 is used in everyday technical and medical contexts.
