消极 (xiāojí) describes a negative, passive, or unenthusiastic attitude, mood, or effect — it's the opposite of 积极 (jījí 'positive, proactive'). 否定 (fǒudìng) is a verb meaning 'to deny/reject' and can also be an adjective for a negative answer or attitude, but 消极 focuses on lack of initiative or pessimism. 负面 (fùmiàn) is more about 'adverse' or 'harmful' aspects (e.g., 负面影响 'negative impact'), while 消极 is about a person's mindset or response.
