Definition
湮没 (yān mò) is a verb meaning 'to fall into oblivion' or 'to be forgotten'—often used for historical figures, cultural traditions, or scientific contributions that have faded from memory. Note that 没 is pronounced mò here (not méi), meaning 'sink, disappear'. In physics, the same characters also refer to 'annihilation' (a noun), but that usage is technical and does not follow the verb pattern of the main sense.
