Definition
短路 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'short circuit' in electrical contexts. It is also used figuratively to mean 'taking a shortcut' (in methods or processes) and, in slang, 'to waylay or hold up' (robbery). As a separable verb, the two characters can be split: you can insert measure words or complements between 短 and 路, e.g., 短了一次路 ('had a short circuit once').
