Definition
罢了 (bà le) is a particle with two uses: after 不过/只是 it downplays something as trivial ('that's all'); after 就 it suggests dropping the matter ('forget it'). It is more formal/literary than 算了 (suàn le, colloquial 'let it be'), and unlike 而已 (ér yǐ), which only means 'that's all', 罢了 also carries a sense of resignation when used with 就.
