Expressing "and" with 和

和 (hé) is the most common way to say "and" in Chinese, and it is used exclusively to link nouns or noun phrases. Do not use 和 to connect verbs or whole sentences.

  • 老板喜欢咖啡茶。
    Lǎo bǎn xǐ huan kā fēi hé chá.
    The boss likes coffee and tea.
  • 我的爷爷奶奶都70岁。
    Wǒ de yéye hé nǎinai dōu qīshí suì.
    My grandpa and grandma are both 70 years old.
  • 他女朋友都喜欢中国菜。
    Tā hé tā nǚ péng you dōu xǐ huan zhōng guó cài.
    He and his girlfriend both like Chinese food.
  • 手机电脑都很贵。
    Shǒu jī hé diàn nǎo dōu hěn guì.
    Cell phones and computers are both expensive.
  • 今天明天都可以吗?
    Jīn tiān hé míng tiān dōu kě yǐ ma?
    Are today and tomorrow both OK?
