The "all" adverb 都
The adverb 都 (dōu) means 'all' and emphasizes that every member of the subject group participates in the action. Always place it after the subject and before the verb; never at the beginning of the sentence like in English.

- 你们都认识John吗？Nǐ men dōu rèn shi John ma?Do you all know John?
- 他们都在上海。Tā men dōu zài shàng hǎi.They are all in Shanghai.
