浩劫 (hào jié) refers to a massive, devastating catastrophe on a historical or apocalyptic scale (e.g., war, nuclear disaster). It is more severe and literary than the general term 灾难 (zāi nàn 'disaster'), and carries a sense of utter destruction similar to 末日 (mò rì 'doomsday'), but focuses on the event itself rather than the end of time.
