Using 被 sentences
Use 被 to form passive sentences, where the subject receives the action. The doer can be omitted, and 了 often marks the action as completed.
Structure
Subj. + 被 (+ Doer) + Verb + 了
Examples
- 我被他骗了。Wǒ bèi tā piàn le.I was deceived by him.
- 他被警察抓了。Tā bèi jǐng chá zhuā le.He was caught by the police.
- 他被父母骂了。Tā bèi fù mǔ mà le.He was scolded by his parents.
- 我的车被撞了。Wǒ de chē bèi zhuàng le.My car was hit.
- 文件被删了。Wén jiàn bèi shān le.The files were deleted.
Words that use this
- 被bèiquilt; to cover (with); (literary) to suffer (a misfortune); used to indicate passive voice (placed before the doer of the action like "by" in English passive-voice sentences, or, if the doer is not mentioned, before the verb); (since c. 2009) (sarcastic or jocular) used to indicate that the following word should be regarded as being in air quotes (as in 被旅游 to "go on a trip", for example)
